Clayton – Stuber Gym

CLAYTON, Mo. — Clayton’s gym was completed with the high school in the fall of 1954, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article.

The gym was named in June 1977 for George M. Stuber, a physical education teacher and coach at Clayton for 40 years, per an April 21, 1977, Post-Dispatch article. The 64-year-old Stuber retired in 1977 was also acting superintendent in 1963 and 1969.

Stuber designed the athletic facilities at the high school, was athletic director and associate superintendent, the article said.

The former football and basketball coach passed away months after the gym’s dedication from cancer on Aug. 22, 1977. He was 65.

Stuber Gym’s court is named for Dawson Pikey, a former Clayton head basketball coach.
