BELLERIVE ACRES, Mo. — The Mark Twain Building on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis has served the Triton community for more than half a century.

Completed in the fall of 1971, the building, with the Chuck Smith Court, is home to the UMSL men’s and women’s basketball teams and the volleyball team, according to the university.

The gym can accommodate 3,700 spectators and features bleachers throughout two levels. The lower level has chair-back seats and there is a four-sided scoreboard above center court that was installed in 2003.

A storm damaged the building leading to the replacement of the wooden floor in 2006. The new court was named after Chuck Smith, the university’s first athletic director and men’s basketball coach.

During the summer of 2002, the gym was home to the St. Louis Skyhawks of the United States Basketball League, the university’s website says.
