Lindenwood captured its first women’s basketball Division 1 postseason win Sunday, progressing to the Super 16 of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
The Lions (23-10) earned a first-round bye before defeating Tarleton State (22-11) 67-59 in Stephenville, Texas.
Lindenwood will play winner of Louisiana Tech and Texas Southern later this week.
The program is the second-to-last Missouri collegiate basketball team still competing in postseason play with State Fair women facing Arizona Western at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Division 2 tournament.

National Invitational Tournament
Saint Louis fell to Arkansas State 103-78 in a first-round game of the NIT.
Division 2 NCAA Men’s Basketball
Missouri-St. Louis dropped its Sweet 16 contest against Lake Superior State the men’s Division 2 tournament.
Lincoln, of Jefferson City, also made the tournament, dropping an opening round game to Lake Superior State.
NAIA Men’s Basketball
William Woods, of Fulton, earned a 2 seed in the NAIA men’s basketball tournament, winning a first-round game against Dillard, 110-62.
The Owls fell 78-72, though, to 7-seed Keiser on March 15.
The NAIA tournament continues play at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, through Tuesday’s national championship.
Division 3 NCAA Men’s Basketball
Washington University in St. Louis fell in the Final Four of Division 3 basketball against top-seeded New York University, 72-60.

Three Rivers, of Poplar Bluff, lost to Vincennes, 69-51.
NJCAA Division 2
North Central Missouri fell in quarterfinals 100-91 to Kalamazoo Valley.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament
Missouri Stateearned a 3-seed in the WBIT defeating Oral Roberts before falling to Minnesota 78-71 on Sunday.
Women’s National Invitational Tournament
Lindenwood defeated Tarleton State in the second round of the WNIT. The Lions earned an automatic qualifier to the WNIT 48-team field. It’s the teams’ first appearance in an NCAA Division 1 postseason tournament. The Lions will play winner of Louisiana Tech and Texas Southern later this week.
Division 2 NCAA Women’s Basketball
Fourth-seeded Missouri Western fell to Minnesota State 87-73 in opening round play of the NCAA Division 2 women’s basketball tournament.
NAIA Women’s Basketball
College of the Ozarks lost an opening-round game against Hastings in the NAIA women’s basketball tournament.

State Fair, of Sedalia, faces off against Arizona Western at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
